Default 1995 Ram 1500 5.9 crank sensor change

This truck did one of those neat break downs when you drive it home and won't start in the morning. culprit was no spark. my problem is that I changed cam and crank sensor, cap and rotor all at the same time. I got spark back, but not 100% sure which item was the culprit. The new problem is that it starts, but runs like crap. Do need to reset the computer? any ideas much appreciated.

p.s. newbie on the board.

Welcome to DF, Post your question in the 2nd gen ram "tech" forum. You'll get tons of help. On a side note, yes, reset the computer. You should have disconnected the negative battery cable anyway before changing the sensor(s), or any sensor for that matter ( the pcm will be reset) after you change the sensor. And read the plenum sticky, very possible the prob is related to that. You know what? I'm just going to move the thread over there. LOL

I highly suggest you read the plenum sticky. I know it's long, but you'll get a lot of info from it.

Recheck firing order, especially if you took the plug wires off the cap.

New cam sensor MIGHT require resetting fuel sync, but, I doubt that's really the problem.

There is also a Tech Service Bulletin in the faq section for plug wire routing. That may or may not help as well.

Put the OEM crank sensor back in and it fired right up and purred. I compared the two before installation and the angle and height were very close, the new one (standard from rock auto) was just a fuzz shorter. It did have some marks on the side of it, but the top was clean. Looks like the cam sensor pick up was the original no spark problem.

just a follow up thought. why can't the parts people make a crank sensor that works. it seems like nobody's aftermarket works correctly. its just a magnet, right?

^^^ Q control I would guess is the problem. Me I have a year on a BWD ckps and have had zero issues with it, I also use Bosch 02 sensors over the NTK 02.
