Default New RCSB Project

RCSB 2000 Ram Sport 5.9, 4WD
Only 143k miles but currently ruined

Guy I bought it from said it was burning oil via blown plenum gasket before it was parked

Get it tailored to me and I spend all day tearing it down

1) its been sitting for 2-3 years w no fluids
2) all plugs but 1 look either scorched or corroded
3) was poorly maintained, girl owned

Last night i filled it w oil and put some water and power steering fluid in so the pumps weren't dry when I cranked it for compression test today

All cylinders showed between 15-60 dry, went up to 60-90 w some oil.

I'm guessing the rings dried out?

I put some more oil in each cylinder to sit overnight to see if compression gets better

I plan on a swap but I'm hoping this motor isn't toast

Rings are shot. Engine is still rebuildable though.

im really happy..

I pulled the plugs and put some wd40 in the cylinders then cranked it over a few times. then I put oil in each cylinder and gapped some new plugs. put them in loose, cranked 10 seconds. cleaned the plugs, put more oil in. hooked it all back up and she runs!

oil leaks from the destroyed pan but I have a replacement. also a terrible squealing. belt is old and pulleys show surface rust. new power steering fluid is milky. hopefully just contaminated.

I had planned to strip it and swap a 12v cummins. now I might just sell both my 1500s for a 24v. not sure yet

i need to fix the squealing before I run it more.. its bad. then bleed the brakes and take it for a spin to check the trans. I will seafoam it then check the compression again. all cylinders were between 15-60 a few days ago..

That's pretty bad...... You might get lucky, and they were just dry, so, not a good seal. Do a dry test first, then do wet test, see what the numbers do.

The ac compressor pulley is gritty when I spin it. Can anybody take the belt off and tell me if you can pull the power steering shaft and pulley out a couple inches pretty freely?

If the p/s pulley moves in and out that far, that pump is toast. Time for a new one.

Got a new ps pump and belt. How do I bleed the lines with the contaminated fluid? Unhook return line, top off reservoir, run engine until fluid comes out clean, hook return line back up, refill? Or do I have to keep hopping in, turning wheel, hop back out, refill, repeat?
