Oil Pump question
Ok, so I have been having tranny issues, and the trans is in the shop getting rebuilt. I figured while the truck was up on stands, being completely useless, I would tackle a an oil leak from the back of the motor. I replaced the rear main seal, and while I had the oil pump out, I primed it before I put it back in. The shaft felt good and tight and the pump would bubble and gurgle if I turned it the wrong way. My question is, should I have replaced the pump while I had it apart? Like I said the shaft felt tight, no play and dripped oil out the pick up when I turned the shaft with a screwdriver. The truck is a 1997 318 2wd with 132000 ish miles on it.
