So... I did an engine flush using gunk motor flush along with marvel mystery oil in it. Then I changed to gastrol gtx high mileage and replaced 1 qt with lucas oil stabilizer with motorcraft fl1a filter. Changed spark plugs to autolite 3923.

The ticking is still there, only after warmed up. I can hear it most during idle, probably because most quiet. But I can't hear it after 2k rpm, maybe ticking so fast I can't detect it? But as I slow down the rpm, I hear it a little but its not rhythmic, kinda like a fluttering tick.

Any other ideas I can try without pulling the intake and replacing the lifters?

She seems to run fine, except when I'm revving its a little rough between 2k and 3k. I'm going to try to replace the crankshaft position sensor, since I have a new one laying around.

Thanks for your input.

Also, how should the exhaust sound during idle, sometimes it sounds like its chugging.

Might wanna pull the valve covers, retorque rocker bolts. Roll the motor over a couple times by hand, and see if everything is moving the way it should. Check for loose pushrods once you verify rocker bolts are tight.
