Default rough idle

I have a 2001 ram 2500 360 5.9 it has a rough idle but when you drive it runs smooth until you hit 45 and it shakes really bad when you let off and give it a little gas. I have changed injector o- rings, plugs , wires, rotor, and cap, the tps, and crank shaft sensor. Could it be the ecu?

Rough idle is most likely associated with a dirty throttle body and idle air control valve. Disconnect the neg battery cable, pull the throttle body, and clean everything. You should also check out the plenum issue, there is a sticky thread at the top of the 2nd gen forum.

As for the shaking around 45mph, very likely due to "death wobble" ...I'd be checking to make sure everything in the front end is solid, especially the track bar.

shakes how - in the front end and through the steering wheel? or the engine shakes?

engine shake might be misfire (skipping). you've changed a lot of routine stuff already. stop and do a compression test. you can rent the test from your local parts store. i know oreillys has them and i assume everyone else does.

welcome to DF.

Fixed the plenum yet? Does the shake significantly reduce if you turn off OverDrive?

I believe I know exactly what he's talking about. I have a 2000 1500 as well and right around 40 to 45 mph, the whole truck shakes. OD makes no difference in the shake. After 45, it goes away.
I crawled underneath the truck and looked at the track bar, ball joints, etc. Besides a ripped boot, it seemed well.
Any help would be appreciated with his problem.

Have not messed with the plenum. But the shake is definatly coming from the motor. It doesn't shake at any mph just 45 and it has a rough idle, a slite lope. I had talked to a guy who said it may be the fuel pump going bad and to never let it go below a quarter tank cause the fuel cools the pump.

Well in that case, I am incorrect. I'll start my own thread.

Good luck with yours!

Found some oil in the bottom of the intake manifold . Looks like I'm gonna be tackling the plenum rebuild.
