Default Lost Gauge and brake lights

While warming up my truck I noticed I had no gauge lights, no low beams and no brake lights (the ones you keep on at night). While moving the button back and forth trying to get it to come on I noticed my engine would almost try to "catch itself" as I got the gauge, low beams and brake lights to come on for a second. The engine only did this when those lights came on. What should I check first?

Pull the switch, see what the wires and connector look like.

Pulled the switch and cleaned the contact points. Wires looked good. Still didn't work. Flashers and turn signals work. Daytime running lights still don't work and neither do the tail lights. Only brake lights, flashers, turn signal and reverse work in the rear.

Check the DRL relay. It's in the PDC, behind the battery.

Doesn't only Canadian trucks have DRL? I think I'd check wiring running down column for the heck of it first, then I'd just replace the HL switch.
