Default Thick gear swap?

Hello, cant find any threads again. I'm sure the topic has been beaten to death. I'm getting ready to buy new rims and bigger tires this summer. Most likely 35' treadwright tires until I save for real tires. Rumor has it, enable to change from stock 3.55 gears to 4.56 gears, I either need a new carrier or thicker gears? I chose thicker gears:

Is this all I need? Any other necessary tools required or is it just a straight up swap from the 3.55 gears with these thick 4.56 gears? Anything right now to get more power with 35' tires. Thanks again.

I have done a lot of ring and pinion swaps and locker installs. You are going to need a press with a bearing pulling attachment (plate with beveled inside edge). A Harbor Freight 20 Ton press will work and is cost effective. Save your old bearings. Hone out the bearings to get your shim height correct. It is easier to get the proper shim height before installing your new bearings.

Once the old bearings are honed out, you can set the shim height, slip off the honed out bearing and then install the new (one time install). Get your toe in and toe out with backlash set properly per your directions. It is not hard to set it all up if you use this trick. Have fun with it.

IIRC The Chrysler 9.25 rear doesn't need thick cut gears but the Dana 44 does once you get above 3.55.

Thick cut gears for the front and just gears for the back. Yes there are a few special tools needed for installing gears, I suggest you DL the FSM and read through it and also DL the Dana 44 info from the Spicer/Dana web site. Put up a parts list lets see if you have it all right.

I did forget that the front axle is a dana 44 and the rear is a chrysler 9.25

Did some searching, found some gears for the rear 9.25 here:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mg...-456/overview/

And the shim:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mgr-1102

And ring gear bolt:

I hear the motives gears and noisey, found some cheaper ones than the yukon and the ones listed above. Is there anything else that I need? Can I use the stock bearings?

If the stock bearings are in good shape, you can re-use them..... but, since you are spending a big pile of cash on new gears, might just as well spend a bit more, and get install kits as well. They can be had for around 150 each. Comes with bearings, shims, bolts, and crush sleeve. (where applicable. for instance, I don't think you need shims for the carrier bearings in the 9.25...)

There were some places offering two gear sets, with master install kits, for around 500 or so on Ebay. I think they were US gear, or some such.

Gear noise is all about setup. Some gears are easier to set up than others. (less picky about tolerances, and still quiet) Take your time, do it right, do it once, never worry about it again. Or, you can pay for it a couple times.

Thanks, I now have this:

Chrysler 9.25 rear gears 4.56

Master install kit and Bearings:

Are there any more parts? Or will these 2 suffice? Im only doing the rear for now until I save up for the front.
