Hey all....have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 4x4 with 5.9L Magnum V8.....had some drop in oil pressure a few weeks back, which i guess the intake gasket on the magnum v8s is problematic, had me a little worried, but topped it off and haven't had any problems. replaced plugs so we'll see if it's burning oil

also have a vacuum leak that affects the air vents in the dashboard, when it downshifts hard on the freeway, to accelerate fast. its wierd. but i guess another chronic magnum thing. i think i narrowed it down to a 3-way vacuum connector/valve on the firewall, passenger side, been thinking about going to the dealership and ordering the part to replace it and see.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Chuck

If you were really low on oil, I can understand a possible drop in oil pressure, as the oil pickup may have briefly been uncovered in the oil pan. If you added oil to bring the level up to full on the dipstick and your oil pressure if fine now, you should be OK. Keep an eye on it and check to see if you can find an oil leak. Has the intake plenum gasket been changed on that truck? If not, that may be where your oil is going.

As for the vacuum issue, the check valve is a probable cause. Try it and see if that fixes your issue.

Just so you know. If the intake (plenum gasket) is blown. It has nothing to do with the actual oil pressure.

Sure it does. Once the blown plenum sucks up a majority of your oil, pressure drops.
