And you don;t have to swap the intake manifold if you don't want to, the newer ones are just plugged.

And for future info, my 97 Jeep engine had only one sensor, my 96 Dodge had two.

does the 97 have an EGR valve on the intake?

Shouldn't. EGR went away in 96. Mine has an EGR manifold, but, nice block off plate on it, and no provision for the tube in the exhaust manifold.

Nope, no EGR in 96+.


One other difference between manifolds, is one of them have an internal divider. I *think* it's 98+, but I don't remember which one I cut mine out of.

So I might be tryin to go a little overboard, but is there a type of mild cam that I can throw in there that aint too expensive, will give me a little more power, and I don't have to beef up the internals for??

Harland Sharp 1.7 ratio Roller Rockers. Run around 300 bucks, about the same cost as a cam, MUCH easier to install, and accomplishes the same thing. Makes your current cam think it is bigger, with more duration at .050 inch lift. No other changes necessary.

I understand. that was already in the plans tho, so good deal. Thanks for all the input guys. Its helped and im sure it was probably difficult to deal with a newbie like me lol. Hopefully the guy gets the motor pulled within the next week or two so I can go get it and get started lol
