Default Cam help

Hey everyone I have a 1998 dodge ram 2500 5.9 360 and looking to cam it. I just need help finding the correct cam to put in it to get the most power but keep it a daily driver. I have a couple mods on the truck now but it's not fast enough for me.

Cam will help a little, but not gonna be a big difference. New differential gears are the best way to get that heavy truck moving quicker, but very spendy. Since you have 4x4 you need to regear front too.

As far as cam recommendation, you could talk to Hipotek who has a few custom grinds for our motors, or call directly to crane cams, or comp cams.

You could read thru Redneck's recent build thread and get some good info on this subject.

Also fill out your signature with any mods so we know what you have already done.

JBA shorty headers, 3inch true dual exhaust without cats, cold air intake, sct tuner, it is lifted 3inchs on 35s. Has 4:10 gearing in the rear. Planning on fixing plenum, and rebuilding if I cam it.

Your current mods are good start. 35s on 4.10 gears brings you back to stock gear ratio, 4.56 or 4.86 would get those large tires and heavy truck moving much quicker.

If you going to do a cam, might as well remove the heads while you are in there and do stage 1 porting with gasket match, on both the intake and heads. will really help from idle to redline. Another thing would be the kegger mod, open her up a little more for better airflow.

Since your in there dont forget to change the:
Timing chain, add chain tensioner, water pump, valve lifters, hardened pushrods, upgrade to roller rockers, new head bolts, gaskets and lots more.

A cam will require adjustable rockers and stouter valve springs, but the stiffer springs can snap the stock two piece valves, some get away with it but why risk it?

Your stock heads are either cracked or will crack...Don't spend a penny on em.

I'd get all the mods you want in place first ie get new heads, intake manifold & TB etc and then do the cam, it's typically the last thing you do on a build.

I have a 98 2500 with 3.55 gears, but I tow a lot so I need to stay out of OD but as said...get some gears to roll those tires.

Not Hughes, this one...Same thing, what I bought.
Have you considered 1.7 Harland Sharp non adjust rockers instead of a cam? Direct bolt on.

Hmm I've heard of doing it but would I need a fresh motor to use them? Would the 4.56 gearing be good for my 35s?
