Default Crank Position Sensor - lots of fun...or not

Well, in replacing CPS(Crank Position Sensor) on 01 Ram 1500 5.9, managed to drop the rubber grommet surrounding the sensor down into whatever hole that is that it sits in. WTF. Engine now sputtering and dying at idle - seemingly misses alot when it does run.

Now what - did replace the TPS as well - much easier job!! Suggestions on how to get that rubber grommet out and in its' proper place?

Bomb? Accidental fire? Others means of massive destruction?

Please advise...pretty please? Whit's end here...

What brand crank sensor did you get?

Might be able to fish the grommet out from underneath... that involves dropping the starter, and the two braces from engine mounts to bellhousing though.....

My grommet wasn't there when I changed the sensor. I didn't worry about it. Truck runs better now than when I bought it. (couple years ago.)

What was the reason you replaced the crank sensor? And as stated, what brand? Did you compare the length of new to old? The grommet just helps keep water and dirt/debris out of there. I'm sure it's toast now. I have one if you want to replace it.

Threw an P0320 code. This CPS is the best one auto parts store had - lifetime warranty on it. I also replaced the TPS Throttle Position Sensor.

Lifetime warranty does not necessarily imply quality product...... How much did you pay for it?

for some reason that i can't understand - lots of people report that they're truck runs like crap with a non-oem crank sensor.

how did yours run before the swap?
now after the swap?
better or worse?

standard, delphi, denso, oem, or nothing.

i tried a bwd at advance when i needed a new ckps, and all it did was run like crap. put a standard in there, and it runs like a charm.

Advance Auto - the BWD at $57, less the online discount.
