Default Stock? Trailer Connector pls help!

Howdy all. I bought a 97 RAM 1500, 4x4. After replacing the heads, cat, ignition, water pump, wheel hubs and a bunch of other stuff I can't remember off the top of my head, I installed a new hitch as the previous one had been removed. The ram has a tow package installed but I am not sure it's factory. From the rear of the loom there are two connectors hanging down, 1 square 4 pin and 1 flat 3 pin. I cannot find anything that these plug into but I am assuming that they're for the trailer as there is nothing else there for it. I've been to Autozone, orielyauto, 5 (yes 5) dodge dismantlers but I everyone is clueless as to how I utilize these sockets.

Does anyone have a clue?

My 97 has the same deal, but I put it all on. It has 3 plugs, 2 square and one flat. The squared plugs should plug into the factory harness behind the tail lights. I just don't remember if the tail light housings had to come out or not.

my connectors are not spliced in. They look like they're factory. Clean, straight off the harness. I think I know the ones you are talking about which are the ones that you plug inline with your brake light cluster. I could buy one of those kits but I'd rather try and solve what these connectors are.

I think this is what you have on your truck?

I will post an image of what I have...

A Haynes manual might help. Or, if you look in the FAQ/DIY section there might be a download for a service manual for a 97 (not sure on that). Both have wire schematics, so you can atleast figure that part out. Sorry, not real familiar with the hitch wiring or plugs.

Thanks, I just downloaded that. It shows a 7 pin connector which is what the recyclers/dismantlers told me come on all rams if you get the tow package... but that's not what I have. Kind of confusing. If it was spliced in I'd understand but it;s not. It looks factory to me or something took a very long time sodering pins on to put in those connectors which I seriously doubt.

The other thing is that the connectors wouldn't even reach the rear bumper comfortably, so I am assuming something else plugged into them before they plugged into the 7 pin if indeed that's was on there before.

Follow them back to where they originate, see what you find.

Also, make sure all your rear lights currently are working.

They disappear into the harness (or at least a black ribbed conduit that joins the main harness - looks stock ) about 2 inches from the connectors. Kind of impossible to follow them from then.. but I assume they go to the front of the truck...

and yes all my taillights are working correctly, I think that's about the only thing that did work on the truck when I bought it.
