Re-programming opinions
I have a 99 1500 with the 318. I bought a cruddy Hypertech programmer from eBay to re-calibrate the speedometer when I installed 37" tires. But, I tried to cheat by plugging it into my 2001 1500 when I put wider, taller tires on it. It freaked out and now won't jack into my 99 anymore. I was using my truck for business use and my boss didn't like paying for premium (even though I showed him the spike in fuel mileage compensated for an additional 20 cents per gallon) so I set it to regular. Now I'm buying my own gas and want to go back to premium. I had heard that a custom tune was better though. I live in Southeast NC, and am weighing my options. Should I get a custom tune? I want the best "bang for my buck", and if a custom tune is in order, does anyone know a shop around zip code 28479 to do it? Any thoughts are appreciated......
SCT Tuner by Hemifever.
Only problem is the SCT xCaliber X2 is now discontinued and will be a few more months until the x3 is out. Other than that, SCT is the best tuner out there. Only issue is that it can't adjust for tire size, granted, the x3 might be able to.

I don't know if the SCT will nuke that programming at all. You could always get into contact with Sean at hemifever.... http://www.hemifevertuning.com/default.asp
the SCT tune should not affect the tire size parameter, which is stored in a different section of the PCM.
but - any further use of the hypertech after the SCT install could potentially screw up the SCT. i wouldn't risk it without some conversation with Sean to let him know what you're doing, and verify he can support you if the Hypertech steps on his program.
