lol My point was that even if you make the conscienous decision that you're not going to put it into 4WD, you'd still be tempted to. But by removing all the 4WD driveline, nothing will break do to mismatched gears.
Gotcha, as my gear sets would match, I am unfamiliar with the concept.
Just to be safe like you are saying then just removing the front DS would be enough.
Gears/pulleys and ratios are very good to know, not just for diffs but for other things as well. You might wish to familiarize yourself so you know what's what.

Just saying
lol
Oh, but, you might be able to increase MPGs by just gutting the entire front axle.
Mine stick out a pretty good amount to look mean coming down the road. The front is around 3" and the back sticks out around 2".
I like that look, truck looks mean. Unfortunately our Sheriffs have nothing else to do except pull people over left and right for no reason. Yesterday was my turn. No mud flaps or splash guard warning. It only took them about a 1 1/2 years to notice. Guess that will be my next priority mod.
I agree with Merc's and Zman's comments about the added stress on the components. You're only complicating it further for supporting SAR efforts (assuming you use that rig) in going offroad. Our trucks are wider than most and you don't want to limit it any further for cosmetic reasons. Just my buddy!
