1999 Dodge Ram 4X4 No Foward Movement But Found Something
Decided to purchase the truck I was asking about swapping in the trans, Pulled the pan and found some metal shavings, nothing bad though. Then decided to pull the valve body, Here is what I found broken, Could this cause me to have no forward movement, In first gear manual if I shifted all the way from neutral I could feel the truck shift but not move.
Also note that I did not touch the spring at all, It was wedged in the piston like this,

i found a broken spring like that in my '96 ( After it had already Grenaded )
But based on my own personal experience , if you have no forward movement , i wana say the clutch pack has already let go. i could be wrong though.

Well now I hear from q buddy who knows the guy who I bought the truck off of. He says he said that it was grinding after losing the first of the gears. Not sure if that would mean clutch pack 9r not. Any way I cwn test the clutches? Or inspect them without dropping the trans?
i'm no expert on Auto transmissions (or anything else really) but , on my 96 A518 tranny , when i lost forward movement (Which luckily i had just turned into my drive way)
I pulled the tranny out and the forward Clutch pack assembly Literally looked like a grenade had gone off, the retaining spring was tangled and bent and disks warped beyond belief.
I don't think there's any way to "test" it , considering you already have metal shavings (any amount is bad) and no forward movement.
I'm pretty sure you're going to wind up taking it out.
The part you're holding looks to be the kick down piston , i could be wrong there too , i haven't opened a tranny since 2005
