Default Frame repair

This weekend I would like to patch up my frame/chassis call it what you would like. I was going to grind out the bad add a rust preventer and then get like a 5/16 or 1/4" plate and weld it in. But a few buddies have said I should go to the junk yard and try to cut the peice off of another truck but this needs to be a day project, but I am trying to do this the right way. Keep in mind I work and go to school so taking it to a shop is kinda outta the picture since they will charge to much. I have pictures but can't figure out how to upload them from my phone( only source of Internet for now)

If you have a smart phone you can download the photobucket app and upload the pics to photobucket, than copy and past the img links in this thread.. pain in the butt on the phone, but manageable...

Being the frame horns, there isn't a whole lot of strength needed. Unless you have a plow or something heavy hanging off the front.

That being said, if there isn't anything, plating it will be fine. If there is or is going to be, then sectioning it from a donor truck is the best bet.

Either way, just make sure you put your seams where there is good steel left.

Their was two ways I was thinking about doing this heating my material up and bending it in a u shap(after I grind out the bad) or cut or squares/rectangles and weld them up but a buddie of mine brought up a good point as would welding it get the bushing of the sway bar or whatever thy bar to hot crack them and then I'm stuck replacing them. Thoughts?

Drop the sway bar, weld in plates, let cool, bolt sway bar back in.

I would just cut the old out and weld new in.

From your own pic. This shows one of them. There are two bolts on each bracket, 4 total. Remove them. And from the look of it, they would need to be dropped anyway as the new steel will have to go underneath the brackets. Then new holes drilled and tapped to remount the sway bar. It can be done in one day, but it'll be a long one.
