Default Help me out here

I have a 01 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2L 4x4, I have a loud grinding noise when I reach 30 mph, I jacked up the truck, put it in gear and the sound was coming from the transfer case and a little vibration. I changed the transfer case but its not the problem because the noise was still there. The transmission is not slipping it seems to be working fine, fluid levels are all good. Please if anyone has had this problem before, and what was the problem. Thanks, Tony

Make sure the t-case shift linkage is adjusted properly. Does the noise go away if you put it in 4 wheel drive? (don't do that on hard pavement....)

No the noise is still there, I put it in 4 high went down the road, and still right around 30 mph the noise appears again. The truck runs fine, no loss of power, no slipping of gears, very odd problem.

Drop the rear drive shaft, pull the tail housing off the t-case. Make sure the snap ring that holds that rear bearing in place is still there.

It could be possible that snap ring is gone on 2 tcases....but, before looking at that maybe continue with the truck on jack stands and with and w/o the rear drive shaft. Also consider disconnecting the front drive shaft, which I'll just toss my guess at for kicks right now. Need more info.

put the rear end up on jack stands and have a helper crank the truck and run it in drive and see if you can duplicate the noise. then VERY CAREFULLY see if you can track the noise. be very careful of moving rotating parts and tires. they'll kill you or worse...

Front shaft(remove it as stated) , front hub bearings have been checked? Tire balance? rear shaft as stated? Rear wheel bearings checked? Also, you state that you put it in 4hi and "drove down the road" ? I hope that was not on a dry road?
