Default Headlights on 96 1500 not working

This is the second time my lights have completely quit working the parking lights and every other light works except the head lights . Last time I replaced the connector to the switch since it was melted . That was about three months ago. I have not taken it apart yet to see if that is what it is. what I am wondering is there another switch , connector , and wiring for it that I can put in to get rid of this problem? It is a 96 1500 4x4 with the 5.9 so the switch is the pull out one. Any advice would be very helpful thanks in advance.

Replace the switch. May also consider doing a relay conversion, so the switch only controls a relay, instead of having full current for the headlights going thru it. Grab the 96 service manual from the faq section, check out the wiring diagrams, inspect the grounds for your headlights as well.

Ok thanks I will probably get it done this weekend after I research how to add the relay. I hope adding the relay will keep this from happening again .

There was another thread on here not so very long ago about doing the same thing. The member was able to purchase a harness, with relays, to do just this. May want to see if you can come up with that thread, some good info there.

Thanks I found it I went ahead and ordered a plug in harness. It will be the easiet way for me since wiring skills are lacking.

There is the link I put it in Thursday it is not the prettiest fix but it works . I found where someone else had put one on and I did it the same way ran in front of the radiator so I would not have to add more wire . It only took a few minutes to hook up . Left my headlight switch out turned my light on for about 30 mins it is no longer getting hot so it is has solved the problem . And I got my ac fixed too got lucky at the junkyard and found a compressor for $26 .
