Which Diesel?
Hmmm, thanks so much for your thoughts! This will be a daily driver, but the engine has 180,000 miles on it and is slowly dying. And, with my 37" tires, I need more torque. I can't even spin the tires at speed in the mud anymore. So, I can drop a 360 into it, turbocharge it, or stroke it. Either way, I look at between 30 - 50% more torque and a huge hit on fuel mileage. The most I can coax out of my 5.2 with a manual transmission is 16 - 17 MPG's. On the frames, I thought the frames were all the same, did I miss something?
The frames are mostly the same. Likely some different crossmembers, but other than that.
What gears do you have? If you go V8, get some better gears, if going diesel, you're going to need D60/D80 combo with 3.55 gears.

The frames are definitely thicker steel, and I believe are 2 inches taller under the cab, but that may wrong.
I've heard a couple guys swap in a Cummins into a 1500 frame. I'd be leery myself if you start pumping it up and towing bigger loads with it.

With the 1500 chassis the hot ticket would be a nicely put together 5.9l gasser with an ATI Procharger bolted onto it, nicely tuned. Dana 60's would be good, too, since the corporate diffs would scream and cry.
Thanks for the thoughts on the trailer. Agreed dem prices is qwazeee.
Thank you for your service. Going to put a further note about his on your motor thread to not derail any further on the topic.
OP -- Stroke a 360 and drop in. Get a separate diesel truck.

I would start with some side boxes built before I put the camper onto the trailer or I would like to find a short 5th wheel trailer. Take the 5th wheel off it's small frame and mount onto my trailer. As always no project is ever done and I would be updating stuff as I went.
Yep with some super cool my **** don't stink prices too.
Yes I was in Iraq in 2004, spent 14 years in the Army on active duty and then 14 years in the National Guard with the last 3 years being activated for Iraq. Got wounded in Oct 04 and then was medically retired in June, 06.
