Default 98 ram 1500 front diff breather hose

Hey everyone I'm new here,

I was driving home from work and heard something that sounded like a spring breaking or popping off.
Pulled in the driveway and noticed a hose just hanging there. It is connected to the front differential, Im pretty sure it is the breather hose.
Anyways, I read something about the hose cap is spring loaded.
Is this true or false?
If it is true then what do I do to fix it?
It has a white cap on it but it is kind of loose
I have pictures but I can't figure out how to upload them.
Thank you in advance.

My diff breather is attached near the CAD and goes up inside the engine bay, attached on the inner fender. Look for a plastic clip near or under the AC dryer. It probably just came loose. Mine actually ripped from the diff and I had to cut the end and re-attach. And yes, it has a wobbly little plastic white cap on it.

No spring or anything in there, it is exactly what you think it is, a breather hose. No valve or anything on it. The cap is just to keep stuff from having a direct path into the hose, and thus, into the diff. Just stick it back up out of the way somewhere, and call it good.

Welcome to DF.

Thanks guys for the quick response.

So glad its nothing I have to spend MORE money on.

Any ideas what the spring noisw could have been? It sounded like it came from that general area.
For all I know it could have been something in the cab. It sounded like it came from underneath the glove box, hopefully

Don't know how your vent hose is rigged up. Mine attaches to the frame just above the CAD with a metal clip. If yours is the same, maybe the sound of the hose getting pulled out of the clip. Don't know that you'd be able to hear it though.

I think I found where the sound came from.
On my hose there is two clips.
One metal that slides onto to metal behind the fender wall
And another black one further up the hose
The black one has threads on it and got completly ripped out, maybe the sound of the threads getting ripped out?

If anyone knows what I'm talking about with the black clamp, how would I reinstall that? Its hard to get up inside the fender wall

If you can't get it, just zip tie it up out of the way somewhere.

+1... That hose is no big deal. And if you want to post pictures, go to photobucket and upload them to that site, then copy the IMG.file and paste it in your post.
