Transfer case front output shaft
The only real issue is the rear springs. 3/4 tons are 3 inches wide, half tons are 2.5. So, either need to change the spring hangars on the frame, or, the spring perches on the axle.
Don't forget to grab the controls arms for the front axle as well.

Ok sorry to be an idiot, I figure I'm not goin to waste my time rebuilding the thing I'm just gonna buy a new one, but I keep getting asked for the assembly number, does it
Really matter? I found one but it doesn't have a tag that I can match assembly numbers up with.

Should be a round tag on the back side of the t-case. You want an NV231D?? (HD, or LD. HD preferrably, if you can find one. LD are pretty common.) Year makes a difference as well, shift pattern changed in 98 or 99.... What year is your truck?
Ya it's a 96, nv231D, will The hd or ld bolt right up cause the transfercase I found does not have the tag on it but it came out of a 96. I can't see dodge changing it but every scrap yard i call seems to make a big deal out of it
I seem to remember something about the manual trans having a somewhat longer input hub. (probably not the correct term.... but, the part that the output shaft from the tranny pokes into.) Not 100% on that though.
