Depends on location!

Feds want you to have a Cat, nobody cares about the Feds. State and Local Laws maybe require having a functioning Cat, which could be harder to squeeze by.

If you don't have to pass emissions, straight pipe to the muffler!

If you do, MagnaFlow High Flow Cat...

1998 1500 and I am not worried about the Feds here in the great state of Ohio but where I live these old people would sh*t a brick if my truck was any louder then what it is now. But I will be putting headers on soon!!!

Have a look at your cat, and make sure it is single in/single out. It change right around the 98 model year. If you are SI/SO, that makes it easy to just chop it out.

Mine is May '98, and the CAT is 2in 1out.
If you're doing headers, do an off-road 'Y'-pipe, no CAT (or a universal CAT), and a bigger muffler to tone it down.

Post #6... use a high flow universal CAT after a 'Y'-pipe.

Or the Magnaflow highflow stock replacement.
