I have a 1996 dodge truck frame with a 360 auto 4x4 I was told it was a 360 how can I tell a 318from a 360 with out tearing down the engine the truck has no title or vin it has a 1941 body on ti

 

The block is stamped on its side with either 360 or 318.

 

It has this number cast into the block 53006774 318 28 does this mean its a 318

 

Sounds like its a 318 - are you seeing these numbers around the starter side of the block?

 

That is a 318.

 

just in front of the starter if it is a 318 then I am going to buy a 2500 with a 360 auto 4x4 for this build and put the body on the frame because I don't have the 41 frame so ill have a 2500 4x4 41 dodge

 

If the transmission is bolted to the motor OK, you should only need to find a 360 engine, as the transmission will fit either a 318, 340 or 360 motor. Can you possibly open the hood and share a picture or two of the existing motor/transmission?
