Default 01 Ram "Blue Duece" Build thread!

Hello All!!!

I have been reading and lurking on this forum for about 3 years now. I feel it is time to make a build thread for my truck.

I have an 01 Ram 1500 Sport, 4x4 ORE 5.2L Manual trans beauty. I just turned over the 140k mile mark and its been burning oil for about 3 months now... Approximately 3 qts a month. So i know i need to change out that plenum gasket and pan. Well i decided since i'm pulling the top end of the motor apart i might as well pull the rest of it apart.

I plan on replacing the following parts.
Rod bearings
Piston rings
Oil pump
pan gasket
crank and cam bearings
timing set
water pump
valves, springs, retainers and seals
rocker arms
push rods
head gaskets
hughes plenum kit
Kegger mod
after market short tube headers
the entire exhaust is getting replaced, as cat was BAD
Possibly larger injectors
and a larger throttle body

I also plan on painting the valve covers, intake and oil pan to match the truck.

Over the past two weekends i have been pulling almost every moving part off of the block. I have accrued around 60 pictures it so far.

Now i am looking for a few suggestions on injectors and throttle body if anyone has any i would much appreciate it.

Alright gentleman and ladies, My progress so far!

There used to be a guy on here that sold tb's. I got mine for like 80 bucks, I'd go with a 50mm being you've got the 318. Also rather than rebuilding the heads that are prone to cracking I'd get a new set of Odessa heads. They're around 600 bucks a pair. Not too much more than having yours rebuilt.

OK, i will look into the odessa heads, i mean mine LOOKS ok, though i can not be sure s of yet it still needs to be cleaned... Yay for Gallons of degreaser and Many many bottles of brake clean.

Thanks Dodge_Dude, glad to have a reason to start posting here. This is going to be a long thread as i plan on swapping axles, t-case and maybe the trans.

Regards

Yeah they like to crack between the valve seats, especially between # 6&8.

Subscribed, always nice to see a thorough build thread. +1 on the Clearwater/Odessa heads. They tend to be much better built and I believe they use a stronger casting too.

Yeah they've got a thicker casting, not to mention you can get them with either 1.92 or 2.02 valves. OP I would opt for the 1.92's and a 50mm tb. Might look into a small rv style cam as well, or maybe just a set of 1.7 rr. As for you wanting injectors, maybe somebody will chime in cause I can't remember which ones but Bosch makes a 4 hole injector that is supposedly more efficient but I can't think of a part number. Oh I love spending other people's money lol.

I've been looking into these myself and think the typical prices seen on the web are a bit high. I'm going to pick up an extra TB next week. I plan to dehorn and bore it out myself (it's nice to have machine tools). If anyone is interested maybe we can work something out.

1999blkdakrt is the one that sells the throttle bodies on here. as for larger injectors... you dont really need them. the oe injectors are 23.6lbs at 49 psi. if you get the red injectors, they are 25.1lbs at 49 psi.

good for you, for rebuilding the beast! i recently did a top end built 360 swap. im putting out somewhere around 400bhp.
