I think he is referring to the trans output speed sensor, or, possibly, the 8 pin connector on the drivers side of the trans, about halfway back. (96 and up trucks.)

I read that you could test the cluster by doing this, you press and hold the odometer/trip button then turn the ignition on. So it tested the odometers leds and swept the gauges.

My question is what tests the cluster. The cluster itself or the pcm or what.

Still getting no bus code.

Also it showed three numbers, although I don't think they are codes.

920
921
999

Those are cluster codes. (I think they are listed in the FSM, which you can download from the service manual thread in the faq section.)

The procedure you outline tests just the cluster. The "No Bus" tells you that the cluster isn't receiving info on the communications bus. Might be as simple as a bad connection somewhere..... or, could be any of a very long list of causes.

I looked through some more nu bus threads and saw one where they had a wire(s) short on the brake pedal.

So I went out and looked to find wires that go to the brake light switch burned. Not burned but got hot enough to melt their sheath. Could this cause no bus?

Looks like the p/o wired in a brake controller wrong.

Need to fix that in any event. See if it doesn't solve the problem.

AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH IT STARTED FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE JULY!!!!!!!!

The p/o wrapped the wires in electrical tape but one was not grounded right. I fixed that and thought well last thing to do was install the comp without its plate and push on all around the silicone. So I did and the dame thing started after finding the sweet spot.

I hope I can stick something in between the silicone and plate so it'll keep contact.

Thanks to all who helped out.
