Ok guys i have found a deal on a 95 5.2 motor but what will i have to do for it to run properly in my 96 5.9 truck ? I really don't want to convert everything over but it only has 96,000 on it (which is lower miles than the salvage yards) and he only wants $150 for it !
Plenium gasket blowed and the bottom end knocks ! I am gonna build it later but just want to get the truck back driveable right now being that i am unemployed i don't have a lot of money to spend !
Swap your intake on it, check connectors for cam and crank sensors, and if they are ok, drop it in, hook it up, and drive it away. It will run a little rich in open loop, but, that isn't really a bad thing. At least, not on a temporary basis.
Ok so i bought the motor, the wiring harness and a box of acces, and the radiator and a front driveshaft for $150 ! He said it had 96,000 on it and ran good ! I am gonna buy the good plenium plate kit and swap my intake but is there anything else that i need ? Will my pcm work or will i have to get one for the 5.2 ?
After you get it in and running, the dealer can most likely flash the PCM for a 360. All I have to say is I think it's a big mistake going to a 5.2. And would you please add ALL the info about your truck to your sig and profile. Thanks.
I think you should fix the plenum on your existing motor (along with changing out the distributor cap and rotor while you are in there) and Seafoam it when done. The knocking you hear may be detonation caused by the oil leaking into the combustion chambers or you may have some blockage at the oil pump screen in the pan. The time and money you will spend doing the swap is not trivial and could be better spent fixing what you have in my opinion.
Well i know its bottom end knock because i have already replaced rod and main bearings once about 3500 miles ago and a new oil pump ! I didn't want to go 5.2 but for the price its all i could afford right now !
