Default Front end bounces up and down at 40 to 60 Mph !? (Death Wobble)

I don't know that is the exact cause of this, but from time to time my 1995 Ram 1500 5.2 liter,

around 40,45 miles per /hr to 60 somewhere there, i am not sure if it catches a little bump and

then starts the bouncing up and down or maybe something that has a little play in the suspension,or a un-balanced

tire,or shucks ,just don't know what id doing that! and i can tell that is more on the driver side... is like all most jumps of the road!,scary...

I have check today all : the tires,up/down ,suspension, shucks i did not find any play, turned the tires ,to see if i see

anything wrong with them, but nothing, tires are about $200 each ,brand : pirelli tires ,

any clue what it could be? anyone had the same problem ? and what you did to fix it?

Thank you for your advice!
Regards.

It's called Death Wobble. Usually quite worn out steering components or control arms bushings.

You need to do a dry steer test and inspect every rod end, ball joints, track bar, steering box, etc. Bad alignment or tires can make it worse.

will have to do a dry steer to see whats going on...it does not do all the time but i guess from the reading is all about when it hits a bump...

Scary the first time isn't it? Mine is starting to get it, not very bad/often but the right sequence of bumps sets off a resonance and it feels like the truck is actively trying to end you.

Go through EVERY bushing, every moving piece of the steering system and get it all buttoned up. I'm just getting ready to begin that process myself soon.

For the record, 2WD's don't get death wobble. It sounds to be that your tires are slightly out of balance.

thebullfrog, if you've got DW, your track bar is most likely gone.

I would start with the shocks first because checking them is free. I've noticed that it's a little harder to check the shocks on our trucks with a corner push because of the size, so you should pull the shocks off the truck so you can push on them to see if they're firm and extend on thier own. My shocks seemed fine with a corner push but when I pulled them off I realized that they were bad because they were really easy to compress and wouldn't extend again.

+1 on the shocks . Bad Shocks give the suspension very little "resistance" (for lack of a better word) which in turn causes the the springs to be "Extra Springy" causing the uncontrollable bounce in the front end.
Death wobble on the other hand is the uncontrollable left-right movement generally associated with bad stabilizers and tie rods

And our shocks aren't hard to replace, I put some Rancho shocks on mine last fall and it made a HUGE difference in how the truck felt.

Ditto. I'm confused.

DodgeDude: It is. Sway bar link bushings are obliterated. I can wiggle the bar by hand lol. I'm replacing the links when I do the shocks.
