Blown rear brake line
The spiral around the brake line is stone/gravel guard. It's there to keep rocks from damaging the brake lines in exposed areas. Your call as to whether or not you want to include it on your newly bent lines. Stone/gravel guard can be purchased in bulk, just like coils of 3/16" brake line.

Spent a small bit of time under the truck looking over the brake lines on the rear. I'll likely keep both metal lines going to each drum, just pull them off, clean then up, etc.
I have a new SS cable to replace the piece that connects to the axle. It looks a BIT difference, but I assume is similar. Interestingly, not sure how the old one comes off. I've got some pen oil on it right now to ease up some of the nuts. The part coming straight up off of it, the hose runs up to the frame where it is clamped and has a "nib" of some sort on the end. Not sure what is up with that. Looked in my 99 service manual, but it doesn't mention it.
Old one

New one

Hose from the top of the old one ends up here

And here is the mess at the other end

I'll take everything off the axle, clean it up, install the new leafs with shackles (once I pick them up this weekend. Get the axle off the jack stands then prime / paint it so it's not so shabby looking.
Then re-run new brake line and the *** end will be done. Minus new exhaust... cause that one is not in such good shape ;o)
Getting ready to do the same job. Had a question or two I thought I'd put into this thread instead of starting a new one.
I'm going to pull the old line out and use that as a template to make my new one then thread it in. Anything I need to be aware of?
Additionally, since I plan to buy a big'ole spool of 3/16th is there any reason I shouldn't just do the rest of the steel line? What about those, for example, on the rear axle that come out of the junction that is placed on the axle? That seems to have some spiral around that. Leave it or replace it?
Thanks.
