Default 3.55 to 4.10

I have a 1998 Ram 1500 5.2L 4X4 285/75/16 with 3.55 gears. I want to switch it out to 4.10 gears. I have searched the forums and can't seem to find the information I need. When I call the salvage yards they tell me that 4.10s were not offered but I see everyone gets them so one of my questions is what do I need to tell them to look for or what other options are out there? What years were they offered and what models. Also Can I just replace the carrier as a whole or do I need to switch out parts in my carrier. I don't want to replace the axle as a whole if at all possible (Depending on Price) I am comfortable doing all this one my own too so paying for labor isn't in the picture just parts. Thanks for your guys help in advance gotta love forums!!

Skipping past a whole bunch of stuff to explain....YES. Various companies make 4.10 gears and carriers for the D44 and 9.25 axles. The front axle will need a thick cut gear (I think) and the rear carrier will readily accept a 4.10 ratio from what I remember.

4.10s were offered in the 2500s

Buy 4.56s, Do not fear the gear.

I went from 3.92 to 4.56 and I drift on dry pavement and at 80mph the truck is at 2300 rpm

Kasper....4.10's were also offered on the 2001 ORE package. Unless he does a D60/D80 swap, he won't be able to get 4.10's in a factory axle unless he finds the ORE axles.

So is the 4.10 gears only aftermarket or did they come OEM. Another question was what about a 2500 model if it had 4.10s would it fit a 1500 model?

Seriously go to 4.56 though, anything less, and I fear you may be disappointed.

You CAN find them OEM for the 1500 axles, but they're a total pain to try and find.

And they're expensive from Mopar. The aftermarket gears are just as good as OEM, however.

2500 axles will need some special treatment, not just drop in.

Dodge Dude, If i buy aftermarket what are some good brands? Do i just need to worry about shimming the Pinion gear or is the carrier shimmed also? Is there an upgrade on the clutch packs for the Posi?

Yukon is the main brand that comes to mind. I'm sure there are others, but it's late. lol
I would think that since you're pulling the entire thing out, everything would have to be reset. Unless you've done it before on other axles, it is a process best left to a qualified off road shop.

There are no upgrades for the clutch packs on the Dodge posis that I know up. The only option is either to rebuild it or replace it with a better LSD while you're in there.
