Open the hood and look on the decal on the hood and the one on the radiator (if they are still there) One of them will say federal or cali emission. And it should have at least one downstream o2 on a 96.

^ No post cat O2's on 8.0 engines equipped with HDC systems.

Didn't see anything about Cali emissions under the hood, but I didn't look too hard because the problem seems to be fixed.

I'm guessing that those two extra O2 sensor connectors in the wiring harness are there for MDC engines equipped with post-cat O2 sensors.

Guy at the parts store claimed 2 different front O2 sensors for my V10. One sensor has a 12" lead and the other has an 18" lead.

I bought the 18" lead, had issues with it, and replaced it with a 12" lead this morning, the same sensor as the one in the passenger pipe.

I'm hypothesizing that the 18" lead is a rear O2 sensor and the 12" lead is the front A/F sensor...

Sound good Boys?

Sorry my bad, I didn't look at your profile and see 8.0. As far as wire lengths go, they are the same exact sensors, except for the length of the wire obviously. So maybe the one was simply no good. What brand, and did you disconnect negative battery before replacing them, so the pcm can reset and learn the new parts?

I was looking at your sig, which btw, does not mention what motor you have.

Fixed!

I only put NTK sensors in this pup, I've heard too many horror stories involving Bosch.
Always kill the battery when I'm disconnecting sensors and such.

As for the sensor wires being different lengths, this is the sensor attached to the 18" lead:

Tip looks alot different that this one (12" lead):

I'm not doubting that they do the same job, I am just making an observation that the tip that goes into the pipe on the 18" sensor that I was sold is different from the 12" sensors that I am currently running.

Could have been bad out of the box, or it could be the incorrect sensor.
