Question Rebuild rearend?

Another dumb question, and I looked, but most of what I was was for replacing the rearend, and my dh wants to know if he can rebuild his. He changed the gear oil a few weeks ago, but I guess wants to make sure we know what we're looking at, as he's sure it's on it's way out.
So, my question to you wonderfully brilliant guys is, can you rebuild the rearend on a ram, or do you have to replace it?
Thanks

With the correct tools and some research, you can rebuild it. The tools are most important. There are service manuals available in the FAQ/DIY section to get you started. And google is your friend

Driveline shops rebuild rear ends all the time and this one is no exception. Unless your dh has the tools and some exposure/experience with differentials and axles, best to take it to a shop and have them rebuild it.

+1... I should have stated the tools will most likely cost more than having a shop do it.

Ok, thanks guys. Better to know and plan ahead, than assume and take a bigger hit than we need to.

Rebuilds aren't necessarily easy things to do. It involves a lot of fine details that IF you are mechanically inclined and do your research. It is possible. Though as stated, probably a better idea to have a shop do it. and later down the line if you happen to come along a rear for Cheap that Needs a rebuild. Pick it up and take your time learning how to work on differentials. It is a valuable set of knowledge to have.

Regards.
