Track bar replacement
I just purchased a brand new MOOG track bar for my 1996 Ram. I was able to get the axle side of the old track bar off but I cannot for the life of me get the upper ball joint side off. Does anyone know a special trick or specific process to get it off? Any help with this matter would greatly be appreciated! Thank You
Remove the split pin, loosen the nut 90% of the way (this will stop it from falling when it pops off) insert a pickle fork/ball-joint splitter and hit the splitter with a BFH. It will pop or drop down then remove the nut all the way and remove the track bar. A ratchet strap helps when installing the new bar to pull the chassis over.
^that. leaving the nut on prevents it from popping off in a violent manner and scaring the crap out of you.
i also used a pickle fork. if you don't have one you can rent/borrow one at your local parts store, or buy a cheap one for about $12.
