Default 99 ram 1500,3.9l consuming oil...

Hey everyone, new member here,I recently purchased a 1999 ram 1500,3.9l,and it's been going thru about a qt. every 200 miles...I'm aware there was an issue with the plenum gaskets in the trucks?? I see the sticky which I'll read this evening when I get home from work, but I thought I might get some other poinyters, advice etc.????It's not leaking anywhere externally,or doesn't seem to be burning it[no excess sexhaust smoke...]I live in Delaware, perhaps someone local might be able to help,I'd certainly pay them...Just a thoought, any advice appreciated....thanks,Leo

Blown plenum, (easy to check) bad PCV valve, or simply the wrong one. (get one from the dealer)

My truck goes thru oil at a pretty significant rate as well. No blue cloud while driving either...... No drips on the floor, or parking spaces. It's a mystery disappearance. I wonder if it doesn't leak out the valve covers, and burn off on the exhaust manifolds....

If it's doing that you should be able to smell it I would think.

That's what I thought too. But, by everything I know, it doesn't 'appear' to be burning it. No blue cloud, no smell, nothing. I cannot account for it going anywhere else though.... and the volume of oil I go thru, it SHOULD be registered as a friggin' fog machine, but, it doesn't smoke.

I haven't the faintest whats up with that. One of these days, maybe I will actually break down and do a wet/dry compression check...... I have been avoiding it, as I suspect it will tell me things I REALLY don't wanna know. (rebuild candidate is in the barn, on a pallet, awaiting the funding to get it going.)

I put a new pcv valve on and cleaned the hose...How can I check for blown plenum?? Do the heads have to come off to do the repair??? Thanks,Leo

Really no way to "check" it, the only approved way of doing that is to take the throttle body off and get an inspection mirror and a very bright flashlight and look around the corners of the intake manifold. No the heads do not have to come off. Just the intake and everything covering the front of it.
