Have you pulled your axles out as far as they will go? I would go back to the retainer bolt and make sure there isn't anything in the hole. It sounds like there is something retaining the shaft. Look at the ends of the shaft and see if it is flared out so it won't go thru the hole now.
Last thought is that the shaft might be bent which is why it won't come out.

Well went to the local U pull and pay this morning to get a rear axle assy and all they had were 2 open diffs ! They were 97 model 1500 4x4s with 3.55s but why were they open and not a trac loc ? So I am gonna try to cut the c-clips out of mine and get it apart and press the carrier pin out !

When I did my 9.25, I tapped the pin out a slight amount, about an inch or less, rotated the carrier 180* and pulled the pin out. Trying to drive it all the way out wont work, it hits the case.

Not sure I would want to get the ends of my axles that hot..... also, keep in mind, that is going to start a fire in the case. There will still be some fluid left, and it WILL want to burn off.....

Have you tried taking the pin out in both directions? (don't remember if you mention that...)

^^^+1 Not a good idea. I would try and find a way to pound the c clips off the axle, maybe something like using a ball joint separator.

Can't do that because they fit in the axle spider gear ! I am first gonna heat the pin red hot and see if it will press out ! Found out yesterday that it is bound up in one of the spider gears !

Because not all trucks are ordered with a trash loc diff. I'd get an axle with the open diff that way you can add a lunch box locker at some point.

Never could understand why a manufacturer would make a 4X4 with an open diff. in the back. Just doesn't make sense to me.

It makes even less sense to make a 2wd with an open diff, seeing how we've got nothing in the front to help us out when the rear starts slipping.
