Default 4.56 gear install ?

Was gonna install the 4.56 rear gears but the carrier pin will not come out ? I have spent lots of hrs trying to air hammer it out but no luck ! It moves far enough to see half of of the lock bolt hole but that is it ! I don't have access to a torch but a guy was telling me yesterday to use dry ice and it would shrink it and it might come out ? Any ideas guys ?

This part should slide out with very little effort if any at all. It could be grooved from the side gears, try turning it and see what you get. Try taking it out from the other end if you can. You're going to have to **** with it to get it out, twist the spider gear set make them move try moving the thrust washers with a pick they might be catching on something. Cutting torch, air hammers, these should not be used on a gear carrier at any time, I have never used those kinds of tools for this kind of work.

Why not just get a new carrier? What gears are you going from? Do you know what your carrier break is? What axle are we talking about?

Can you hear it hitting anything when it stops? Does it jam or just stop?

Pin has to come out in order to get the carrier out... so, just replacing the carrier isn't really an option. That pin HAS to come out. Big hammer, and a drift punch might be the hot ticket.

Are we talking about a C-clip axle ?

Stupid question but do you have the roll pin or bolt out that keeps the shaft in place?

It is a 96 1500 9.25 rear axle ! Yes the pin has to come out to remove the c-clips to get the axles out ! Already tried big hammer,Heavy duty air hammer and it moves some but doesn't come free !

I have no more help for getting the pin out. You might have to bust the side gears to get the c clips off the axles.
