Default 94 dodge ram questions

ok so i have a 94 ram with the 318 and the auto transmission and it doesnt shift right, it rarely shifts down when i floor it and sometimes it jerks shifting back into 1st or second but when im on the highway it seems to shift fine and takes off pretty good when i floor it so i am guessing it has something to do with the 32 downshift something or other and the 2 to 1 downshift something or other but i am not sure i also have a chance to get a 85 ramcharger and was wondering if the transmissions would interchange

sounds like the bands need adjusted man. also you can play with the TV cable to adjust how much pressure it takes to make it downshift. and how long it stays in gears before shifting.

If it shifts fine under specific circumstances, chances are pretty good that you can just solve the easy problems, and be good to go.

Find out why the TV cable is binding. Fix it.

Do a fluid and filter change. Do NOT flush the trans. You won't get all the fluid, (5 or 6 quarts, probably) but it will certainly help.

If you have the right tools, adjust the bands while you are in there.

Get the bands adjusted and some fresh fluid in there. The tv cable should move in sync with accelerator cable. Check the spring down on the driver side of transmission.

At idle the needle will be around or little below the 40 mark, accelerating or cruising it should stay well above the 40 mark. Temp gauge about 1/8 of an inch below the 210 mark in the center of gauge.
