Default changing my 3.9 to 4.7

I have a 2001 dodge Dakota with 3.9 want to put 4.7 can I use the 3.9 wireing harness and transmission and what other thing should I know while. Changing out engine's.

I doubt that will just drop right in. The harness is certainly going to be different, chances are VERY good that the 4.7 won't bolt to your trans either. PCM won't have a clue how to run it...... mounts are different, etc.

Be easier to swap in a 318 or 360. Just have a parts donor truck, so you are sure to have everything you need.

The 4.7 is a pathetic engine. Pretty frail and if was surpassed in power by a v6 before it was phased out.

Drop a 360 in and you will have a sweet little ride

While I am for a 360, Hambone you forget that the power outputs of the 4.7 were increased, and I don't think it's been phased out yet.


Just do a 360 and have fun.

Pretty sure it got completely replaced by the new pentastar v6

Anyway, OP: just drop a 360 in it and be happy. It will get better mpg that your V6 ever got.

Oh we'll it still out there. It is completely outclassed by the 3.7

Also, new half ton, lol what a sad state the truck world is in
