Default Tranny question

My dad has a 99 ram 1500 4x4 318. We put a tranny in it from a 2001. We got it all done and now the tranny temp light is on when start and won't go into overdrive when you push button. Anyone have an idea? Maybe sensor or broken wire.

In 2000, the pinouts on the sensors changed. With the wrong sensors, you get exactly the symptoms you are seeing. I think you need parts off the original valve body to get the older version sensors to mount as well. (there is a thread that had that info in it around here somewhere...... just can't recall where....)

OK thanks HeyYou. Do we need to change whole valve body and sensors?

I think it's just a plate, or some such... don't need to change the whole valve body. Do need to change ALL the electronics though. Governor pressure sensor/solenoid, and TCC and O/D solenoids.

Could, I suppose. Look at pinouts for the different years, and match the harness to your trans. Can't hurt to try.
