Steering Wondering
Steering box braces? Yeah, there are a few different designs, but, basically, they all just stabilize the box. it helps, but, doesn't eliminate all of the wandering, mainly because there are MANY different possible causes. Everything from sloppy steering parts, the the type of tires you have on there.
Your best bet is to THOROUGHLY inspect your steering linkages, starting at the column, and working your way to the wheels. If it moves, and shouldn't, replace it, if it moves more than it should, replace it. If id doesn't move, and should, replace it. One of the biggest problem areas is the steering box itself. They don't really age well. You can try and adjust it, (procedure is in the service manual, also a walkthru in the DIY section for a quick and dirty adjustment....) usually helps some.... but, a worn out box, is a worn out box. Replacement is best, Redhead, or Borgeson. Simply replacing it with another stock box isn't going to improve anything, and may even make things worse. Rebuilt stock boxes uniformly suck.
