Default new transmission question

OK so i have a 1997 DODGE RAM 1500 4X4 with 5.9 gas, Already figured out it is a 46re transmission (automatic). Can I swap it out with a 46re tranny from a 2001 1500 4x4 with 5.9? Read somewhere that the electronics were switched up in these transmissions somewhere around 99-2000. If it is possible are there certain items that need switched? Or anything that needs done with computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Governor pressure sensor and solenoid are different, need to swap those, and the plate they mount to. I think the pinout for the TCC and O/D solenoids are different as well, so, need to replace those as well. All in all, couple hundred bucks in sensors and such.

+1 on all counts. And you can change the TCC/OD solenoid assembly without removing the valve body.

his truck is a 97 with a 5.9
the new trans is an 01 from a 5.9

what should he buy new? and what should/could he move from his 97.

if he buys a new 97 Borg Warner sensor and solenoid for the $50 or so - can he move the mounting plate from his 97 to the 01.
and move the 97 TCC and O/D solenoids from the 97 to the 01.
...and when he's done, has he turned the 01 into a 97.

get a new 5.9 torque converter from Precision or other. the stock ones are crappy.

All electronics need to be swapped from the 97 into the 01, and yes, also the gov body mounting plate needs swapping. The transducer/pressure switch mounts differently between the two.The TCC/OD assembly from the 01 is the main harness and will not plug into the gov transducer of the 97. So it needs to be swapped.
