I noticed a somewhat grinding, or metal to metal rubbing noise which sounds like its coming from my front pass. side wheel. not when I apply the brakes, but accelerating, and kinda like a growling noise or something, anyone ever have this?

 

Hub bearing going out.

 

jack up that tire.
spin the tire - listen. noise could be bearing, brakes, or axle ujoints(4wd).
grab the tire at 12 and 6 oclock and try to wobble it. should be zero movement. repeat at 9 and 3. movement could be either bad hub bearing or ball joints.

ok, all u-joints were replaced so I can rule those out, I replaced the ball looking thing on the end of the front driveshaft also. Can I replace just the hub bearing or do I have to get the whole hub?

 

all the 4wd's use a non-serviceable hub-assembly, meaning the bearing is pressed into the hub and you have to replace the whole thing. they're expensive too. off-brands are about $75+ each and the good Timken or National are $140-175 each. Shop online if you can. Local parts stores really charge a premium price on them.

if you have a lot of slop (wobble) in the wheel - park it and don't drive it. the bearing can come apart and damage some other very expensive parts.

 

rock auto is 60.00, parts stores want 132.00 I can feel a little vibration in the wheel

 

Need to inspect it. Jack it up, shake it. If you have a fair bit of play there, STOP driving it. You would be seriously underwhelmed to see parts of your truck leaving at the least convenient moment. Not to mention the other folks sharing the road with you.....

 

If your brake pads are real bad they can make the same noises, sound can go away once you apply the brakes. I'd look there next if you have no play in the wheel.

 

passenger side didn't have any play, drivers side did and I could hear the bearing while turning it so I replaced that side, still have the noise though. I thought about the brakes also because on the passenger side it gets the brake dust, and I think I need to replace the caliper, but its clearly coming from passenger side

 

Is there any life left on your pads? sometimes the outside one looks good but the inside one is down to the metal.
