I think I'll be able to space out the rears to clear with 1/4" or maybe 1/2" at the most. I got them with 1/2 tread Coopers for $100. Couldn't pass.

I feel stupid but thanks. I think I'll be able to space them out 1/4" or maybe half. I got the wheels and 1/2 tread 33" Cooper tires for $100. Couldn't pass.

I ran into the rear drum clearance issue when using the factory aluminum 16" wheels from the 2001-2002 Dodge Ram 2500 on my '95 Ram 2500. The drum interference was caused by the stiffener rib at the backside of the drum. The stock steel wheels had no issue, since they were not as wide as the aluminum wheels. I solved this problem by having the outside of the stiffener rib of the drums turned down on a lathe about 1/16" - 1/8". This provided enough clearance for the aluminum wheels to fit without issue. I also have no issues with braking performance. The later model Ram 2500 uses rear disc brakes, which negates the drum clearance issue.

In your case, I would check very closely to see where your drum clearance issue really is. If the wheel is 8" wide, I suspect that your problem may be the same as what I experienced.

The wheel was real close to seating and I guess I'll just add thin spacers. Looking down the side of the truck, I notice that the back wheels and tires sit in a little farther than the front ones so it should look a little better too.

Have you removed the drum and tried to sit the drum inside of the wheel to determine exactly where your drum interference is being encountered? Personally, I'm not a big fan of spacers, as they limit lug nut engagement with the stud. When driving a loaded 3/4 ton truck, I want my wheels on as securely as possible.

Just FYI, when I had my drums turned a bit on the lathe, I took along a wheel, so that the machinist could be sure he took off the appropriate amount of drum stiffening rib for wheel clearance.
