Default Vacum Leak?

Hey Everyone,
I'm doing some reasearch for a friend who has a 1999 Ram 5.9L. We both think its got a vacum leak someplace because it cycles between defrost, and vent depending on how much load the motor has on it. Heavy load=defrost and normal cruising=vent (where we wanted it). How do I go about looking for the leak? Am I even right in my diagonosis? Any help would be appreciated!!! Thanks

Evan

yup, your right on the money. there's a vacuum line that goes thru the firewall to the a/c controller somewhere and there's a check valve that's gone bad. swap that valve out and you'll be good to go.

wow nice truck. I like the color combo. what mods have you done to it? ... or are planing to do to it?

01RamClassic... I have not had the problem yet so I cant say as to where the part is, I've just read about a hundred posts on it and know it's a problem. what I'd do is go to the dealer and see if you can get a pic of the parts breakdown for that valve and go from there. i will see if I can find anything in the dodge manual that I have and let you know what I find.

OK, well that was easier than I thought, on the right side of the intake manifold there is a vacuum port that has a line that goes to the firewall, there are 2 check valves on that line. one of those is your problem. the book says you can just unplug them and swap in a new one.
