You won't notice any gains by changing the gap. You might lose some though.... if you go with a higher output coil, a larger gap is doable.... but, the stock ignition system really isn't that bad.
years ago i did a lot of experimenting with plugs. 1. if its big change swap only one plug, to start. 2. i have ran .045" gap with no trouble. but not sure it helped. 3. a good CDI can run as much as .060-.080" gap. 4. NEVER NEVER run a surface gap plug with a non-CDI on gasoline. you WILL get stranded.
