Default new transmission and be done or get tc and flush transmission several times

Alright guys my 46re has come to an end. I know it is my tc that has bit the dust and today when I drained the fluid and pulled the pan I found a good amount of metal shavings on magnet, in filter and mixed in fluid. Should I rebuild? Get a new build transmission say from PATC or try my luck and get a new tc and flush the tranny several times and see how that works? I will be doing one of these options this week as she is my dd and I have no spare vehicle. Thanks

rebuild yours, or rebuild a core, or buy a rebuilt. replace it once and hopefully be done with it.

if you pull it to replace tc only, your nightmare is just beginning.

i found an EXTERNAL fluid filter. it should reduce going into the inside filter. it goes into fluid IN line. should be the fitting at left rear of the trany. if you mod the lines be sure to use only steel brake lines, or high pressure hose. i think chrysler trany lines are 3/8"

man o man i about forgot yes its a cut & past sorry. __________________
after you clean the trans. add this to your*chrysler*trans. an external fluid filter
1. go to auto-zone. get 2210, its called a power steering filter, but it is for transs to. it is for 3/8 tubing. by (magna-fine) be sure to use high pressure hose. Reff:http://www.magnafilter.com
2. for other sizes wix 58964 5/16 tube size

I'm in the middle of my TC replacement, almost done just waiting on a band adjustment tool. If trans has no other issues other than TC failure I say replace TC only, flush fluid. Why replace if it's shifting fine? Wait till the trans wears out before replacing it. Unless you can afford it, but you never know how long these trans will last. If you keep the truck long enough you'll be putting another trans in it sooner or later anyway. No need to swap out before failure.

Thanks for all the comments and now I have decided to get it rebuilt using PATC level 2 kit but want to see what stall I should get on the TC. I know it shows 1800 is stock but was wondering if 2200 or 2000 would be best. Let me know what you got. Thanks

As we have zero info about your truck other than it's a 2001 1500, stay with the stock stall speed.

When in doubt, break out the proper means of repair.

Stock or lower stall, higher stall causes severe heat and less efficiency, motor doing more work to get to speed, you want to tighten up the stall. Higher stall feels better to drive but not worth roasting your rebuilt trans and even worse fuel economy.

higher rpm stall is for racing and performance.

lower rpm stall is for slow speed offroad, towing, etc. i have a lower stall, called an RV style and like it for low speed/low rpm putting around.
