Default H pipe question.

Hey guys, basically what I am wanting to know is if I put an h pipe on my true duals, will that sacrifice loudness and tone? Because it sounds like I am going to have to because if my truck is sitting for a little bit at idle it will start running extremely rich and idle down to about 150 rpm's. I am running true duals with no cats and 18 inch glasspacks. My mechanics teacher told me that it does that because I only have 2 o2 sensors and they are only in 1 pipe. That is when he told me to make an H pipe so the sensors can get a reading off of the other pipe.

You should run an x or h pipe in true duals if you have a Fed.-spec truck.

I've always heard an h pipe is louder than an x, not sure though.

Won't change the sound at all.

I think I would be more tempted to find out why the PCM thinks that bank is running so lean, that it wants to dump fuel wholesale.

I had heard that x makes a more mellow sound because of the exhaust being able to cross more freely?

H pipe will not have any effect on this problem. More like a bad sensor on the motor, does the shop have a scanner? If so plug it in and see what's going on.

Federal emissions specification.

And I thought when running true duals on an OBD truck you were supposed to put the front O2 sensor in the H?

That's one way of doing it, but, depending on just how long your H pipe is..... you may or may not get sufficient flow thru it to give the O2 sensor a good reading. After all, the only flow thru there is to balance pressure between left and right banks. (which is to say, not much at all) If your H pipe is only a couple inches long, shouldn't be a problem. if it is more than 6, then you can bet the O2 isn't going to be even remotely accurate.
