I've heard that allowing the truck to warm up with the transmission in neutral instead of park helps.

Because the OP wouldn't be complaining about the transmission shifting into overdrive when cold. Unless his arm was too cold.

So I've read a lot about block heaters and oil heaters and recirculating heaters and was wondering:

Does anyone have a oil heater for their transmission?

Does anyone see a need for this in these temps? Or is it just overkill?

No where in this does the OP mention overdrive. I asked what type of tranny in the third post.

You are correct putting in neutral will circulate faster then in park.

OR in rev, cause it raises the line pressure to the highest of any setting. but i would do that only as long as my foot stayed on the brake peddle.

I live in minus 40c/f and at the most all we do is warm up our trucks, or maybe do a cold valve bypass so if the fluid is colder than 180F it wont even go to the cooler it just gets sent back to the transmission. And if people think the rad/stock cooling system will heat the oil, it wont, Ive driven for months and the snow in the fins of the rad won't even melt. Ill bet the thermostat doesn't even open.

150 watts is not very powerful, so it should be good and an old stereo speaker magnet with some butcher twine tied around it for a rip cord would do the trick of holding it up against the pan.
