Not unless you get a pair of 60s with 4.10s for cheaper than a gear install

Yeah, but, "Hens Teeth" comes to mind there. I wanna go 4.56 in mine. (with 33" tires. no lift necessary)

I'm going with 33s. 4.10s will be a hell of a lot better than 3.55

Ok; so the speedo gear came in the mail today (that was quick). And swapping it out must have been one of the easiest things I've done to the truck. The factory tooth count was 31; I swapped it out with a 35 count gear.

I also got the new tires road-force balanced this morning. I had a little bit of a vibration, and figure that's the first thing to address. From where I ordered the tires and rims (from Desert Rat) they only spin balanced them and put clip-on weights on the inside wheel edge (you can't put them on the outside with this rim design). So with the road force balance they put stick-on weights behind the spokes of the wheel.

So later I'll top off the tank, reset the trip odometer, and check my MPG with the next fill-up. I had been averaging 13 MPG plus/minus one. And I'll see if the vibration is gone.

And after 500 miles with the new gears I'm supposed to change out the diff fluids. That'll be a good excuse to drive the truck more!

You'll save about 50% of the cost if you can setup the gears yourself. I am really really glad I learned how to do gears. I have done 3 friends Jeeps & my father-in-laws Jeep. And of course I have done my own gears on a few rigs. What I save is close to the cost of to traction aiding devices. So I'm technically getting them for free if I pay myself for the work.

I agree; I spent $900 on labor for this gear change. I'm sure I could find something to do with an extra $900 (guns, Jeep parts, truck stuff, camping gear, etc.). Fortunately I'm not getting gear ratios changed on a regular basis.

Come on out here to Washington or pay me to drive to VA and back home and I'll show you how to setup gears. I have to drive I don't fly anymore with my leg all messed up.

I know a few guys who have done it themselves for the first time. You just need to take your time, keep your work area clean, keep organized and lay stuff out the way it comes apart.
There are those who say you don't need it but I don't agree. Get all the special tools you need, dial indicator, magnetic base, case spreader, bearing puller, inch pound torque wrench (Dial Type), ft pound torque wrench, caliper, 0-1" micrometer, hydraulic press & then all your basic hand tools & air tools. The first few rigs you due will pay for the tools.

I'm more than willing to teach anyone who wants to learn. And I am retired so I have tons of free time too. So you just got to get here or get me to where you're at. I can bring all the needed tools except the hydraulic press.

If I had the time and money I would definitely take you up on that offer. I would fly out there in a heart beat

Seriously. One of these next few summers I would love to get to travel and meet a fellow dodge forum member and learn an advanced skill to boot

anytime anytime. I'm pretty open other than the first two weeks of July. Maybe we could even get a few more members together and work on one of their rigs. So you start a thread in the none tech area and get some other guys interested.
