Default 1997 ram 1500 5.2 exhaust manifold bolts

i have a exhaust manifold leak on drivers side..a while ago i put grade 8 bolts in them..they were fine untill recently..my question is would putting stainless bolts in there be beter than any other bolt..or would they just get stuck in there also..im hoping i can get the bolts out....i was told that since i put grd 8 in there i would probably take the threads outta the heads...any insight would be greatly appreciated

Only thing you can do is try and pull 'em, and see what happens. Might try hitting em with chemicals, and tapping a bit with a hammer before trying to twist em out.

Good Luck.

Since you've had them off before, it shouldn't be too bad. When you re-install them, I'd use grade 8 bolts with a dose of anti-seize on the threads. Here is a good way to remove stubborn exhaust studs/bolts - BTW, if you don't have oxygen/acetylene, a small torch with MAPP gas works well, too.

i don't think the grade-8's will be stuck nor damage the threads. but do shoot them with pb-blaster or other a couple of times a day and let it soak. it doesn't hurt and might help.

unless your getting a terrible rust problem, stainless is overkill. just use a generous dose of antiseize.

to make it a little easier to get the bolts out, take your truck and run it pretty hard for a little so the manifolds get nice and hot, usually helps with getting the bolts out, unless you have a torch of course

You'll be fine... I think they're installed with rust from the factory
