98 tranny in a 96?

Default 98 tranny in a 96?

Ik tranny ?s come up alot but a guy is lookin for a tranny for his 96 4x4 1500. A guy said he had a 98 tranny for sale and guy claims it wont work. Is this true? Couldnt he change electronics to match his old tranny?

96 is 46rh. hydraulic. 98 is 46re. Electronic. 99% sure it will not work without some modding (if there are any mods for that swap) but honestly, he should find a 46rh tranny. A lot less hassle.

96 is a strange year. Some are RH, some are RE. (mine is RE.) Check the connector for the electronics INSIDE the trans. 3 pin is RH, and won't work, 8 pin is RE, and will bolt right in, hook right up, and work just fine.

Hmm I did not know that. My parts truck is a 96 so hopefully I hit the jackpot and it has a 46re.
